  Backpackers border crossing information From Vietnam to Cambodia If you have an Evisa, make sure you print it out! We saw someone get rejected because of it. If you apply for a visa on arrival, make sure you have a small passport photo with you. Because the visa is 30 dollar without the picture and they ask 40 dollar if you dont have the picture. For us they took about 15 minutes to make our visa. Then we went in for a 'health check', which is just the doctor giving you a piece of paper. The doctor then asks for 1 dollar fee, if you say you dont have the money he lets you go. We then got our stamps and youre good to go! (Taxi tuktuk to Kampot is 15 dollar and to Kep is 10 dollar)

  Our experience going across the border. We went through around midday on a Tuesday. You get dropped off just outside the passport check office. We queued for about 10 minutes and got our stamps to go across. We had our Cambodian visa printed out, but didn’t need to show it in the end. We had an evisa anyway, so the details were also in our passport. But I’d still recommend taking a printed out version. We then made our way between the two borders. Once you’ve gone through to the Vietnamese side they’ll check your passport and ask for your visa. We’re from the UK so didn’t need to apply for one before arriving, as we’re in the country for less than 45 days. You’ll be asked to put your bags through an X-ray machine. There wasn’t much of a queue. We then had to pay $1pp for a health scan (a man checks your temperature). He’ll give you a piece of paper that says you’re good to travel. So make sure to save a few dollars from Cambodia. We then went through and met our transfer from the other side. Our original Cambodian driver took a photo of our group for the Vietnamese driver, who met us on the other side. You can also get taxis from here. Might be pricier though. Our Cambodian SIM cards still worked just outside the Vietnamese border. But stopped working after driving 100 meters down the road. Hopefully this helps any travellers who had questions about the crossing. Everyone was friendly and it wasn’t stressful.

  We crossed from Cambodia to Vietnam, which took under a half hour (very short line in Cambodia and no line in Vietnam). Processing wasn’t particularly speedy so it could definitely take far longer if arriving with a tour bus or something. Be sure to print your e-visa (if required) ahead of time. As other reviews have noted, you will be asked to pay $1 for a health screening in Vietnam after having your temperature taken. We stated we had no cash and were let through without issue.

  Very easy process, without any strange things happening. We were through within the hour and arranged the visa at the border. At the Cambodian side no real bus possibilities

  Re Cambodia into Vietnam. Not too bad. Could be a lot worse I guess. Hot as hell (officers sit behind screens in cool AC). At least an hour if a tourists bus has arrived. Some individuals suddenly appear and jump the queue with impunity. Long queues; seems to take at least 10 mins at least per person even if one has an e-visa. Many don’t and expect a visa exemption on arrival like airport immigration, hence the delays ?

  This review follows on from my Prek Chak Border review- leaving Cambodia and crossing into Vietnam with my Vietnamese plated motorbike along with my pet dog. To start off, entering Vietnam with your motorbike you will need proof of its registration by showing your Blue Card (noting that my bike IS NOT in my name, but I am the owner... never had an issue with this). YOU CANNOT LEAVE VIETNAM with your motorbike (only locals who have a special permit can do so)....and NO, bribes will not work. To cross into Cambodia with a Vietnamese plated motorbike, go to the Moc Bai / Krong Bavet border crossing where it is simple and problem free (refer to my posted detailed review on this procedure). Arrive at the Ha Tien entry section of the immigration office, park your motorbike and go straight to the Customs Officers (dark blue uniform) sitting nearby. Have your Blue Card, passport and eVisa ready....and get ready to explain where you crossed with your motorbike (it's simpler to tell them Moc Bai, Vietnam or Stung Treng if you arrived from Laos). They may inform you that it is illegal to cross here into Cambodia with a motorbike...just so you know you can't come back this way (probably for those who intend doing a visa run??). I had no problem with them and then went to the nearby immigration office counter to get stamped into Vietnam. The immigration officer will check with the customs officers (who are only several metres away in plain sight) before proceeding any further. Once all ok'ed he will want your passport and a copy of the eVisa...then it's just a simple formality to be stamped into Vietnam. When you have been stamped into Vietnam collect your motorbike and walk it to the final checkpoint. Here they will again want to see your passport and a copy of the eVisa. This step is just another formality and is completed in a few minutes. Once completed you simply ride off to enjoy Vietnam. NOTE; Not once at either the Cambodian or Vietnamese immigration procedures did I have to pay any "EXTRA" fees.

  If you don't give them money they will not take your passport in order, first the ones with one note (money inside)... So expect long wait if you don't wanna tip the corrupts. After you go to health check and they ask for 1$. This is only in the Vietnam entry side

  Absolutely inadequate behavior of one Cambodian border officer towards EU foreigners: he shout “Visa, visa” for no reason, he treated us (a family with 3 children) as if we were terrorists, he deliberately took the documents from local people and made us wait for more than half an hour after it was our turn in the queue, pretend he didn’t see us and the officer looked through us as if we didn’t exist and brazenly picked his teeth. Such behaviour is not adequate for civil servant.
