  Great place to stay and good value for money. A little out the way of everything, but nice and close to the national park. I would advise renting a bike (not the one there though it's terrible!) and then the place is perfect. Helpful staff and good food, try the nem (spring rolls).

  Had a wonderful stay here on still house in the middle of jungle, breakfast is very good and is served by the family from their organic farm nearby, our room is a dorm with comfy mattress with mosquoto net and blanket. In overrall, we loved our stay here very much

  Beautiful nature, friendly people,familiar feeling and real real nature with her animals! I loved to sray here 5 days hanging and sleeping outside in my hammock!

  The hostel just opened few weeks ago and therefore still endures some lack of coordination and management. However, regardless of this, there should be some standards you should expect at any accommodations. I am talking mainly about cleanliness; the dorms and the bathrooms were really dirty. Other than that, the place is in a really beautiful location and the owner, Khang, is a really helpful person.

  24rest has by far the best location on Cat Ba island. Be super patient when ordering food (it takes really long time) and don't forget to triple check your order. The rooms are pretty simple and the owner Khang is a friendly person. The place recently opened so it's defining its own way in the hospitality industry. You can access two caves from here and it's perfect for hiking the National Park. Khang, I wanted to give you a 5 but you really need to work harder on getting the kitchen ready and paying more attention to details. And please DONT make it another party hostel.

  Sorry for the long review, but I feel it is needed for the sake of the owners - Please read this review to see the reason for the stars. It’s unfair to judge on stars. The hostel is located in the middle of the National Park on Cat Ba. The area is nice, fairly quiet and relaxing. - getting here is ok from the ferry which arrives from Ha Long. Just jump on the green bus outside the ferry terminal, it costs 25k per person. Just tell the driver. They’ll let you off. Getting back is a little harder, as there are no official stops, you’ll need to wait and find a bus passing. Staff have no idea when the busses are, they cannot help at all with getting you there. They just look at you and go, “no bus” - “maybe taxi” Having said this, the place is crawling with insects and bugs. Ants, mosquitos and various others. Nets are provided in the dorms. But if you are sat outside, be ready. Being in the “jungle” it is very very humid and hot. With no air con you are left with a fan in your room - unless there is a power cut (which we had) meaning that you are basically sat in a steam room with no air flow. (Very hard to sleep) - I know it’s not the hostels fault, more of a comment. (They did kick in a generator after an hour, which is really good) There is WiFi access in the main area and one dorm. The connection is ok for WhatsApp but that’s about it. Slow and drops out. But useable. You can rent a scooter from the guy, up to you to decide on price. We paid 50k for the day. You’ll need some sort of transport, as you are about 11km from the port and 8km from the main town. Roads are ok for a motorbikes. The place is run by two boy (teens, I’m guessing) who appear to do an ok job at most things, can help, but you really need to ask and push them to help. English is limited, but they understand most things. It is a shame, as I when dealing with he parents (maybe) - the owners, they are rather good, helpful, and have decent customer service, they are also friendly. - for example, asked for a knife, they were more than happy to help, same story with glasses, and storing milk in their fridge. An example of the lack of customer service is the welcome, or should I say, lack of, when we arrived. We were just shown to our beds and left to it. No explaining how things work, what to do, where things are. As a tourist, it’s nice to be welcomed and offered advice. A lot of home stays in Viet Nam nail this. I found that everything at this hostel is half done, the rooms are dirty have ants roaming feee. The staff do not clean the rooms, until you ask them about the mess, and then they half clean it. (See pictures) - there is a general lack of daily/weekly or even monthly clean. This includes the bathrooms, dorms and general area around the hostel. - they do clean the sheets and pillows every time! We asked to move dorm as there was a guy in ours who had the worst BO on the planet. (If you are reading this, have a shower mate, you stink) - This Guy was leaving half eaten food around and mess all over the place. - when asking to move the staff were ok with this, and went round with a spray can, rather than asking the guy to clean up. The second night (new dorm) we had 5 of the staff in the room just chatting, even though we were in bed they just kept talking and playing on their phone. - we did ask to move to this dorm, so can’t really complain too much. Positives: food is ok and ok price, breakfasts are large. Overall, this place has potential, but staff really need to keep the place clean, make sure things are working and learn some customer service points. - welcoming a guess sets the mood of the stay. Points to improve - be proactive - clean and think what you’d like if you were a guest Be confident with your guests Take the initiative and be friendly. Even if your English is limited, it’s always appreciate to see a smile, have a greeting.

  Pros - Fairly quiet area, in the middle of the national park. - Decent food at reasonable prices and large breakfast! - Fairly helpful staff, despite little English. - Under 5 minute walk to Trung Trang Cave (go the back way for free entry). Cons - Mosquitoes and ants everywhere! Also a few frogs and lizards in the rooms. If you don't like bugs, stay well away! - Not very clean. The dorm rooms aren't kept clean. Staff barely touch things when you mention the mess, and the bathrooms arent kept clean either. Hit and miss to whether you'll find toilet paper. Water pressure varies significantly also, making showers vary from ok to rather slow. - Very far away from any of the tourist attractions. You will need a motorbike to get anywhere - these are rented from the hostel, but order in advance as they may not have them ready and probably won't have fuel). - Bus-full's of loud Asian tourists walk right past the dorm to visit the cave, and take photos with the dorm as if it were an attraction to see. Not great if you want any privacy at all. - Electricity cuts out often, especially during the night when you need the fan on to sleep because of the heat (no air con). This probably isn't helped by everyone (staff included) leaving all the fans on even after leaving the room. Points for improvement: - Keep the rooms and bathrooms as clean and tidy as the restaurant area and you will earn another star. - Smile! 😀 This will help making guests feel welcome rather than unwanted. - Consider using some sort of anti-mosquito candles for the common areas.
