  We visited the museum and it turned out to be one of our favourite activities of the trip! We learnt about rice cultivation in a fun and interactive way from our brilliant guide, who also told personal stories about his life and made us feel so welcome. A great little museum which is worth a visit, especially due to the amazing staff :)

  We stopped here with the kids (age 9 & 12) not sure what to expect. It’s only one room with some signs on the wall and equipment for growing rice. At first I thought maybe that’s it but we were in for a very good surprise. A Vietnamese farmer spent about an hour with us explaining in great detail the way rice is grown in Vietnam and how special it has been and still is to Vietnam and its people. The kids got to try some of the practises required to process rice and learnt the difference between brown and white rice. 🌾 overall this was a very genuine experience with lots of enthusiasm and culture throughout. If you are looking to find out more about rice and its importance to Vietnam this is for you, no showy techniques real history and culture in action. The guide used a translator app and some English to guide us through the information. Highly recommend 🍚

  We had such a fun time this morning at the museum. As rice lovers it was so fascinating and humbling to learn about the process of cultivating rice but also hear from such a passionate farmer about the process. It’s about 40 degrees (c) today and we were looking for something to do that was out of the heat and this was the perfect reprieve whilst learning and supporting a local family. Was very fun! Definitely recommend.

  I’m very glad that I went to this museum. I wasn’t expecting to learn the history of how Rice was harvested during ancient Vietnam. It was very historical and visual with the small demos, specifically about cultural preservation of rice farming and agriculture in tam coc Ninh binh. I was the only attendee during the time I visited and the host did his best to speak to me in English with the help of a digital translator. I never knew the process of cultivating rice from seed to harvest.

Inside, the space is arranged like a slice of traditional Northern Vietnamese village life. Everyday farming tools, household items, bamboo baskets, winnowing trays, and stone mortars are displayed in a simple yet meaningful way. Clear, well-written panels explain the journey of rice cultivation—from planting and harvesting to processing and cooking—showing that rice is not just food, but the very soul of Vietnamese culture. What truly sets this museum apart is its hands-on approach. Visitors are encouraged not only to observe but also to participate, such as trying their hand at pounding rice with a traditional stone mortar or engaging in conversation with the guides about rural life in the past. These interactions feel natural and unforced, making the experience feel more like learning from local villagers than walking through a static exhibition. The atmosphere is warm and grounded, with earthy tones, vintage patterned tiles, and soft lighting that slow you down and invite reflection. Tam Coc Museum is not large or flashy, but it is thoughtful, sincere, and deeply human.   Hands-on experience for anyone who wants to understand more about the Vietnamese rice culture. One special thing is Mr. Khoa and his real house model typical of the North type of ancient house. Highly recommend people to talk with Mr. Khoa, he's very knowledgable and passionte about the North culture. His house also sometimes hosts special cultural events. I like the rxxperience here 👍

  Cosy, single-room exhibit with a dedicated explanation from the guide. The translation app he used was very precise and we learned so much about rice production, as well as the spirit of the Vietnamese people. This somehow became my favourite stop in Ninh Binh, and one of my favourites of the whole trip! Also, try the wines! It's 10k vnd per small tasting cup, they're really flavourful and I'm going to seek these wines out as cooking ingredients. The plum is like a nice kombucha and the apricot will make a great mixer.
