  Tam Coc is an absolute must-visit destination when you are in Ninh Binh. The scenery is breathtaking, and the entire experience feels like a journey through one of Vietnam’s most beautiful natural landscapes. For around 350,000 VND, the boat tour offers excellent value and takes you through stunning rivers, caves, limestone mountains, and several checkpoints along the route. One important tip: if you would like to stop at any of the attractions or checkpoints, make sure to communicate clearly with your boat rower. Unfortunately, my experience was a mixed one. My boat rower did not take me to checkpoint 2 & 5 and turned back earlier than expected, which left me feeling that I did not get the full experience that was included in the route. Another thing visitors should be aware of is that some rowers may try to sell handmade woven souvenir frames during the trip. I was offered one for 200,000 VND, but I later found similar items in the local market for around 70,000 VND. The rowers may also ask for tips at the end of the tour. Tipping is entirely optional, and in my opinion, 50,000 VND was reasonable considering the shortened route I experienced. That said, the natural beauty of Tam Coc easily outweighs these disappointments. The views are truly unforgettable, and one of my favorite moments was seeing local farmers working in the rice fields along the riverbanks. It felt authentic, peaceful, and offered a glimpse into the daily life of the local community. Overall, despite a few frustrations with the boat service, Tam Coc remains one of the most memorable places I visited in Vietnam. The landscape alone makes it well worth the trip, and I would still highly recommend it to anyone visiting Ninh Binh.

  It’s so beautiful and peaceful here. The boat ride takes you around the area through mountain crevices, rice fields and under cave systems. The scenery truly is serine and breathtaking. The weekend can be busy and a little hectic but that just adds to the fun. It was really hot when we had gone so make sure to bring a hat and some water for hydration. The boat ride is anywhere from 1-1.5 hour but is well worth the journey 🙂

  At the boating station, only the combo for 350k is mentioned. When we asked for the 250k ticket, we were directed to a yellow EV which took us to a different booking ticket area. We paid by credit card, no extra charge. The EV then took us back to the boating station. Asked to put on life jackets (a little smelly) and directed to a boat right away, no wait (we were there around 3pm on a Wednesday), and just 2 of us on the boat. The gentleman rower is a very nice man. He told us about some history of the area and pointed out some nice scenery. The ride was very nice and scenic, different than Trang An, but nice nevertheless. We didn’t buy the combo, but we asked him if we can stop by some areas and he said ok if we didn’t take too long. He took some nice photos of the 2 of us. He never asked for tip or tried to sell us anything. It was a long ride and the rowers worked hard. We thanked our rower and gave him 200k to show our appreciation.

  Tam Coc in Ninh Binh is absolutely breathtaking! 🌾🚣 From the moment I started the boat ride, I felt completely immersed in nature. The limestone karsts rising dramatically from the river, the peaceful water, and the lush green fields all around—it’s like stepping into another world. I loved every second of drifting along the river, taking in the stunning scenery and the calm atmosphere. It felt so relaxing and almost magical, a perfect escape from the busy world. I could have stayed there for hours, just enjoying the beauty and serenity. Definitely a must-visit spot if you want to experience the true charm of Ninh Binh! 🌿💛

  Tam Coc is a splendid place filled with nature, beautiful landscape, green field, river, fish, birds, hills and caves. It's a UNESCO hirathe site and worth visiting, because probably no other place in the world has such a mix of river and hills together in one place and the caves is cherry on the cake.

  Tam Coc – Bich Dong, located in Ninh Bình, is a place that quietly stays with you long after you leave. Drifting through the calm river, surrounded by towering limestone mountains and endless greenery, felt incredibly peaceful. The beauty here doesn't need words, it simply makes you stop and appreciate nature. We left with beautiful memories and a deep sense of gratitude for experiencing such a special place. It was truly one of the most memorable parts of our journey through Vietnam.

  Loved it. Rowed gently through the river and caves by the nicest person you could hope to meet. What a beautiful experience. Peaceful, stunning scenery, enjoyable, romantic, everything you could want from a once in a lifetime tourist ticket. This was around 500vnd as we didn’t do the temple (750vnd with temples). We had to go to the bus station to get this cheaper ticket which was a bit frustrating why they didn’t sell it at the main ticket office. The rowing is almost as fascinating as the scenery, as they typically row with their feet. Give it a go and it’s super difficult (impossible almost), but these beautiful people do it day in and day out. They don’t expect tips, but do tip if you can as it’s super hard work and we loved our skipper. Such a nice man. Definitely do it, take a hat and water.

  The Tam Coc boat trip in Ninh Binh truly deserves its nickname, 'Ha Long Bay on Land.' Gliding along the tranquil Ngo Dong River, surrounded by towering, verdant limestone karsts and lush rice paddies, felt like being immersed in a classical landscape painting. The highlight is the unique experience of passing through the three dark, mysterious caves (Hang Ca, Hai, and Ba). ​It's an incredibly peaceful and authentic 1.5-hour journey. What makes it extra special are the skilled local boat people, who traditionally row the sampans with their feet—a fascinating and enduring cultural sight. If you are lucky enough to visit when the rice is golden, the scenery is absolutely unmatched. A deeply relaxing and beautiful encounter with rural Vietnam!
