  I did a lot of research and seeking on where to book a hotel in Hanoi, and after looking at about a million homestays/hotels, nothing felt right until I found the Secret Garden. This is the perfect combination of intimacy, familiarity, and coziness all while being right in the heart of the Old Quarter. We truly felt taken care of here. The women who run the Secret Garden are incredibly kind and warm and you truly feel like family when you stay here. The communication was excellent and clear, the rooms and beds were very comfortable, and the breakfast was WONDERFUL. On several occasions when I had a special request - needing to store bags when we went on a tour, requesting breakfast earlier than normal, or needing a load of laundry done - they accomodated us with the utmost graciousness and kindness. Another thing that was very unexpected and appreciated was the level of noise cancellation from the doors and windows! I was amazed at how quiet the rooms are considering they are right above a busy street. The breakfasts were some of the best food we had in Hanoi, and sitting in their dining room while they cooked breakfast was so so lovely. The whole place really has a vibe of warmth and home. I would not hesitate to stay here again and I really can't wait to come back. It is a treasure.

  Stayed here for 3 nights and it was amazing! Thank you to Christina and her staff (so sorry, I didn't get names!) for being so warm, friendly and helpful. We stayed in a balcony room and it was spacious, clean and had aircon and an air purifier which was really appreciated. Breakfasts were also homely and yummy (complete with coffee and che!) each day. Thank you again and I look forward to coming back whenever I'm back in Hanoi (:

  This is a real gem of a place to stay. Tucked away in a really great location, this place offers you access to the buzz of Hanoi whilst also being a clean, calm and beautiful haven. The ladies are so lovely, and cook the best breakfasts. They kindly cooked vegan breakfasts for me too 🥰 can only recommend

  We stayed in 3 different rooms here in multiple stays. Each time was great. The beds are very comfortable and rooms clean. My partner had an injured foot and they took such great care of him - providing ice each time we returned for the evening and making pho for him specially. I would recommend the Vietnam breakfast option as it was always delicious and filling (the western looked basic as usual in Vietnam) It’s a nice quiet homestay right in the middle of the busy streets. We enjoyed sitting out on the balcony watching the traffic go by. Lots of shopping & food options nearby. There are a lot of steps to get in but they assist with luggage so it’s not a problem for most people (but something to be noted if you struggle with stairs) Overall we had a great stay each time and definitely recommend booking. Thanks to the 3 ladies for all your help :)

  It isn’t a bougie hotel, it’s a cozy, local place, that despite not being in the freshest state offers a lot of comfort and makes you feel welcome. The hotel is in a great localization, despite the entrance being hidden behind a garage. The owners are very nice and welcoming, and offer local breakfast each day with the price of the room, which on its own is very cheap. You won’t get the best view, the tv remote didn’t work and some of the walls and furniture seem run down, but the comfort is still very good and no reasonable complaints could be made about the place.

  This place is very quaint and decent. There are alot of stairs, so it's not for the mobility challenged. The ladies are quite strong, agile and helpful with the luggage. We stayed on the 4th floor. The room was large with a sleeping loft where our adult son slept. The Vietnamese breakfast was excellent, but they were slow with the coffee. I wished they had a bathroom in the hall, in case the one in our room was occupied, but I didnt see one. The owner speaks English. They do laundry. I would stay here again.

  Comparison is the thief of joy, the stay was ok but unfortunately, I found a way better stay for less in the area. The room I stayed in had no window. It was about 800k++, and I had to pay additional fees for paying with card. The good: - I felt really safe with the setup and the ladies at the homestay - the location is great - they do laundry for you for 70k The ok: - I’m not sure why the comforter has no cover - it was impossible to control the shower temperature - the toilet seat was wobbly and about to fall off - common area doesn’t look like pictures I guess it is tired Realised I forgot to take pictures of the room, I believe they have way better rooms I just didn’t book the right one. I won’t be back.

  This is a lovely place to stay in Hanoi. Central location and close enough to many sights, such as The Temple of Literature and Hoa Lo Prison. Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum was close enough, preferably using a quick, but cheap ride in a Grab taxi!|Breakfast was good and fresh and prepared on the spot by the lovely staff, in the breakfast room on the floor above looking out to a beautiful balcony with lovely plants. |The room was big enough and so was the bed. The staff were extremely helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and called a taxi for us twice when we needed one and made sure it actually arrived. Safety was not an issue as the property seemed to be well protected and we never felt threatened. We were pleasantly surprised on arrival at the hotel when the staff rushed out to our taxi to welcome us and carried our luggage up the stairs to the second floor. They also carried it downstairs when we left the next day. They made sure our stay was really good and we feel glad they did.|The bed was not quite as comfortable as we would have wished. The bathroom was below average, as it looked and felt very old and neglected and it seemed like it had been put together by the neighbourhood handyman at a bargain price. However all toiletries were provided. Nevertheless everything worked out just fine, as we only stayed there for one night. For the price we paid it was good. The temperature in the room was quite hot overnight as the fan provided was inadequate, but the free wi-fi worked well.
