FANTASTIC! We wanted to visit Vietnam and Cambodia, and did some online homework about tour operators. We eventually reached out to Little Vietnam Tours and boy, are we glad we did!! Vicky was nothing but absolutely professional, polite, efficient and patient. She proposed an itinerary according to our interests, and after 7 drafts (yes, 7 drafts!) we had our dream trip. During this process we asked many, many questions, sometimes dumb ones too, but Vicky always, always, remained calm, patient, friendly, efficient and prompt. From the moment we landed in Vietnam and departed Cambodia everything went to exact plan. The guides were timely, the arrangements were seamless, and there was absolutely no stress. The guides and drivers were fantastic too - every single one of them. They were attentive, very friendly, knowledgeable and considerate of our needs when the weather became extremely hot and humid. We had a fantastic, memorable trip across Vietnam and Cambodia that will stay with us forever. If you want the same, do yourself a favour. Reach out to Vicky at Little Vietnam Tours and let her assemble your dream holiday. You won't regret it.

We have used MANY private tour companies around the world. Little Vietnam Tours lived up to every expectation. Our guide was THAI. He made every day a seamless affair, anticipating things we might need or might want to do. They maintained excellent communication throughout the trip and really allowed us to just focus on our vacation. Thai gave us space and was always ready to accommodate even the smallest request. If you are looking for a low stress and highly immersive experience, look no further.

Learn from our experience: The tour: 21 days/20 nights from mid-December into January Hanoi - Ha Long Bay - Ninh Binh - Hoi An - Hue - Dong Hoi (as a base to visit Phong Nha) - HCMC - Mekong Delta - Siem Reap Why I booked it: It seemed overwhelming to plan a cross-country trip on our own as we don’t speak the language and I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to get drivers between cities. We also wanted local guides with good English skills as we love to have conversations about daily life with the people in the countries we visit to learn more about their culture. Reviews for this operator were overall positive. Cost: Cost: ~8200$ total (charged as 3300$ per person plus in-country airfare and flights to/from Cambodia: ~1600$ for two people) This is a lot of money in Vietnam but I do not think the services we received even approached that value. In addition, we were asked to tip the guides 5-7$ per day and the drivers 2.5-5$ per day on top of what we paid. The guides: We received only 4 official guides for the tour. One for North Vietnam, one for Central, one for South, and one for Cambodia. All had tourism experience and were professional. All were enthusiastic and tried to explain things as we went. They did speak English. However, and this is a big one since for the price I expected their English to be good/vetted by the tour operator, the guides’ English level, comprehension, and intelligibility overall were the worst of any country we’ve visited to date especially at the rate we paid. At best, I would estimate oral English language skills of the Vietnamese guides ranged from late beginner to early intermediate while the Cambodian guide had a nearly conversational level. After the first guide, I contacted the operator and was told something along the lines of we’ve never had this complaint before for the guides and was offered a lunch (relative value 15-20$) for compensation. After this point, I did not feel that I could trust the operator to find a guide with a good English level and I cannot in good faith recommend the first two guides for other English-speakers hoping to have in depth conversations with the guides. The good: * Private drivers drove safely, clean car, no worries about pickup/drop off from airports and transfers between cities. * Hotels generally had good breakfasts and included traditional Vietnamese foods and fresh fruit as well as usual continental breakfast items; otherwise adequate for 3-star level with AC, clean rooms in somewhat older hotels, usually not quite central though with 10-15 minute walk or short taxi to the busier areas. * Tour operator generally responded quickly to inquiries and helped check us in for some flights. The bad: * The guides’ English level. * Several times the guides needed to change the itinerary provided by the tour operator as the tour operator did not have them scheduled in an efficient manner. * The food tours were given by the same guides already discussed while we expected a much more “foodie” tour hosted by someone who loves the local food as it typical when we book food tours in other countries. The guides couldn’t tell use the history of the dish, ingredients/how to make it, regional varieties, etc. They usually only took us to one location, maybe two if we were lucky, and ordered all the things there. * Some of the activities were not well feasible for the time of the year. Overall experience: ⭐️⭐️ Itinerary: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Guides: ⭐️⭐️ Drivers: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tour operator value/cost ratio: ⭐️ Final thoughts: We will visit Vietnam again. The country is gorgeous, the people friendly, the food delicious. However, next time our strategy will be different. Planning a trip in-country is not as hard as it seems. If you decide to use a tour company, definitely ask them to send audio samples of the guides speaking so you can assess in advance if the language level is sufficient for your personal goals of the trip. Hopefully you can learn from our experience. Enjoy Vietnam!
